DESCRIPTION:
In 1982, Universal Brushwares (UB) (Pvt) Ltd. started manufacturing of a toothbrush with a new design. The design resembled a dental surgical instrument and had a technical advantage over the existing toothbrushes available in the Pakistani market. As the company management had high expectations (of profits margins) of this new design they went on to get it formally registered to ensure no replicas were made. The idea clicked and the company started making profits. The design which resembled a dental instrument used for cleaning teeth was soon copied by some other manufacturers and the mushrooming of similarly designed toothbrushes in the market stifled the profits of UB. The top management of UB immediately launched an investigation of the pirating companies. On receiving information about the name of the companies which included Syed Industries, the Chief Executive decided to take the pirating companies to the court.
