DESCRIPTION:

The case presented deals mainly with questions of social inequality pervading our social consciousness, which expressly manifest themselves in all social contexts, including places of employment. The case highlights how often employment practices and decisions negatively affect working mothers on account of ill-founded societal misconceptions. The male-dominated norms and societal constructs affect women and their career/aspirations in a prejudicial manner. Pakistan's democratic paradigm limits advancement opportunities for women, especially after they have become mothers. Women are expected to limit themselves to the sphere of family life and are frequently discouraged from pursuing employment opportunities. Women, as individuals, are deemed to be incapable of dealing with their personal and professional lives. Personnel across the public and private sectors discriminate against women in terms of career advancement.
