Mr Mansoor Ahmed was reclining in his comfortable armchair in his sitting room in Cambridge. His flat was above his grocery store, which remained open seven days a week. It was June 1987 and he had just returned from a short trip to his native Pakistan where he had explored potential business opportunities. After twenty years of hard work, jointly contributed by himself and his wife, their grocery store had turned into a flourishing business. However, looking at his two children aged eleven and five, who were watching television, he was greatly apprehensive about their future in Britain, and this increased his motivation to return home.
