DESCRIPTION

ABSTRACT:

The note on smart ways to learn summarises recent findings of the science of learning. During the last three decades, researchers have conducted numerous studies on effective learning. They have accumulated a large number of findings that now have reached a state of convergence to inform the practice. Research has not only highlighted the deficiencies of some common approaches to learning that students and faculty use, but has also identified several good practices and demonstrated their efficacy. This note; a) presents a framework that organises current research findings and the good practices of learning, and b) describes the practices to students to help them learn better. The learning practices described in the note can also be used by the faculty to design courses. The teaching note explains how faculty may teach the note in class or assign the note to students to help them understand how they can adapt and apply effective learning practices. The teaching note further explains how faculty may incorporate the practices into the course design. Finally, the teaching note shares some background research about effective learning practices.
