DESCRIPTION:
In analyzing the health of a country's economy, one of the first macroeconomic indicators that economists take into consideration is the country's Gross National Product (GNP). GNP is defined as the total value of all final goods and services produced by the country's domestically-owned factors of production during a given period, such as a year. To facilitate analysis, estimates of GNP based on yearly or quarterly data are published regularly by governments and are referred to as the country's national income accounts. What is GNP, nominal and real? What are the alternative ways in which GNP can be measured, and how is it actually measured and reported in Pakistan's national income accounts? These are the basic questions addressed in this note.
