On 2 May 2003, Atif Siddique, Assistant Professor Ghaznavi School of Business Administration (GSBA) was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Upon returning to his office, Atif called his wife and 12-year-old son to share the news. They had been looking forward to the promotion because associate professors at GSBA were entitled to an official car. Under the car scheme, he could get a 1300 CC car worth up to PKR 700, 000 for official and family use. The scheme also allowed him to add money from his pocket to buy a better car if he so desired. Atif’s budget allowed a maximum of PKR 150, 000 as additional money to buy the car (thus his price range was from PKR 700,000 – PKR 850, 000). After using the car for five years, he had the option of buying the car from GSBA at book value entitled car’s price.
