DESCRIPTION:

This note provides a comparative analysis of the change management processes undertaken in different public sector organisations of Pakistan. For this purpose, the framework that is used is Kotter¿s eight-step change process model. This framework is not only widely used but also provides a systematic analysis for evaluating organisation level change initiatives. Based on secondary data, a comparative analysis of five public sector organisations has been done in which significant change initiatives were launched. The five public sector organisations which were part of our sample were Pakistan State Oil (PSO), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Secretariat Training Institute (STI), Management and Professional Development Department (MPDD), and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). This note compares; the role of leadership, management styles, importance of vision statement, communication of vision, importance of coalition building and buy in of change and planning of short term wins in the context of Pakistan¿s public sector organisations' change initiatives. It also explores issues on why institutionalisation of change has become a big challenge for Pakistan¿s public sector organisations.
