DESCRIPTION:

This case discusses the managerial issues that a multibusiness organization, Bitumat Group, had to deal with in managing its present and future business growth. It entails the issues in designing organization structure, developing job descriptions, high employee turnover especially of expat workers, and transparency in reward systems.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1) To use some of the concepts learnt in OB-2 to design an organisation structure for the Group. In doing this students can be asked to pay special attention to the division of power not only between the recently created Board of Directors and the Chairman, but also between the newly appointed Managing Director and the Chairman of the Group. 2) To use the concept of job analysis and to learn the technique of designing job descriptions to remove organisational confusion about individual operational responsibilities. 3) To analyse the problem of employee turnover, especially of the expat workers and work out the options to overcome the same. 4) To design an appraisal system for evaluating individual contributions and using this as the basis for providing annual rewards. eg., Annual Increment, bonus, etc. 5) To recommend a compensation policy that can help in tackling the turnover and motivation problems.
