DESCRIPTION:
Pakistan Voluntary Health & Nutrition Association (PAVHNA), a national NGO consortium established in 1979 by (late) Begum Zeba Zubair, was the first to take the initiative of addressing issues concerning adolescents and reproductive health. They conducted a systematic study for an initial situation analysis and implemented an Adolescents Reproductive Health (ARH) pilot project in Pakistan. The project was made possible with the help of funding and technical support from international donor agencies. The main focus of the project was to sensitize the policy makers and key stakeholders on ARH and strengthen the leadership capabilities of the youth. In this project, PAVHNA provided trainings to youth leaders and conducted a rapid survey of the perceptions of youths/adolescents, parents and teachers on ¿Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health.¿ A National workshop was also held in the final leg of the project to disseminate the results of the study. The biggest challenge faced by PAVHNA in the third and final year of the project was to seek donor support to sustain and expand its activities after the ending of the current funding in December 2003. Looking towards the future, PAVHNA planned to replicate the program all over the country.
