DESCRIPTION

ABSTRACT:

This case is about a textile spinning mill. The senior management was worried about the company’s quality performance and felt that the company could overcome its financial problems if it can could its quality. The senior management lacked an understanding of process variation; hence, they were demanding control over quality that was not practical. On the other hand the managers in the company were not educated enough to be able to distinguish controllable from uncontrollable variation. The case can also be used to highlight concepts like: Cost of Poor Quality, and the effect of top management attitudes and employee commitment on quality.
