DESCRIPTION:

In 2003, Seema Aziz, Managing Trustee of Cooperation for Advancement, Rehabilitation and Education (CARE) was requested by the City District Government, Lahore (CDG) to adopt 140 schools located in Ravi Town. CARE expressed its inability to provide sufficient financial assistance and affirmed that it could only extend its expertise to implement its School Adoption Program. CDG offered to assist CARE in fundraising for project implementation. Seema had to decide whether to try and convince the government to allocate additional funds in the Annual Development Budget for educational institutions or to modify its existing advocacy plans to meet the requirements of the proposal.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

The case provides ground for a healthy discussion about the current situation and challenges faced by Pakistani educational institutions and the approach employed by the government to uplift their standards. In addition it would provoke students to analyze private public partnership as a modus operandi for improving varios public sector institutions. The role of a non profit organization also comes to life in this case which allows an understanding of philanthropy and its positive results in society.
